Muscu des Rues (Street Workout)
Created a decade ago in The United States, “street workouts” originally took off in France within the prison system in response to a lack of adequate equipment. Inmates used towels to protect their hands from gravel floors and mesh fences.
Today in France, street workouts consist of using urban furniture: fences, benches, slides, scaffolding poles. Most street workout groups will consist of a team of four to five people, each with a name to help identify their group from the others. Websites like Facebook and Youtube, where team members upload photos and videos, are essential components.
